Jewelcrafting is one of the primary professions you can learn in World of Warcraft. Our WoW Jewelcrafting leveling guide is updated for ‘Cataclysm’ and will help you in leveling up your skill from 1 to 525.
Almost all raw materials you need to make jewels come from mining. Therefor, mining is the ideal gathering skill for a player leveling up Jewelcrafting. We have created a detailed World of Warcraft mining guide to help you level your mining skill as well.
Like any other professions, Jewelcrafting is also learned from a trainer. Trainers are located in all major towns in World of Warcraft and in most starting areas. Best way to locate a trainer of any kind would be to ask a NPC guard, who will direct you to the trainer by giving directions and marking the location on your mini-map.
Tools of the trade
After learning the skill, make sure you buy a Jeweler’s Kit from the supplies vendor who is usually placed right next to the trainer. Without the Jeweler’s Kit, you will not be able to craft most of the items you can learn to make as a jewelcrafter.
Open your skill book and you should see an ability called “prospecting”, which allows you to ‘prospect’ ore you obtain from mining. One or more gems (gem type and quality will depend on the type of ore) can be obtained by prospecting ore. You need a stack of 5 ore, of the same kind in order to use the prospect skill.
Leveling Jewelcrafting 1-100
Providing you have already learned the skill from the trainer, the fist item you need as raw materials are copper bars. You can get copper bars by smelting copper ore as a miner, or can buy them from other players directly or by using the auction house. Other raw materials needed at this stage include bronze and silver bars, Moss Agate, Tigerseye and Malachite, which can be obtained from prospecting copper/tin ore. You could buy these gems from other players too as they are not that expensive.
| Skill level | Item to make | Raw materials |
| 1-35 | Delicate Copper Wire | 2x Copper Bars |
| 35-50 | Malachite Pendant | 1x Malachite and 1x Delicate Copper Wire |
| AND/OR | ||
| 35-50 | Tigerseye Band | 1x Tigerseye and 1x Delicate Copper Wire |
| 50-80 | Bronze Setting | 2x Bronze Bars |
| 80-100 | Ring of Silver Might | 2x Silver Bars |
| AND/OR | ||
| 80-100 | Brilliant Necklace | 4x Bronze Bars, 1x Bronze Setting and 1 Moss Agate |
All above patterns can be learned from the Jewelcrafting Trainer. Keep all the Delicate Copper Wires and Bronze Settings you make, as they are needed as raw materials for other patterns. You can safely sell the rest for additional income or disenchant some of them if you have another character capable of disenchanting items.
Leveling Jewelcrafting 100-220
Bronze, Mithril Bars, Heavy Stones and gems prospected from Iron/Mithril ore are the raw materials for this stage. One additional pattern is require to raise your skill from 120-150, which is *Pendant of the Agate Shield if you are Alliance and **Amulet of the Moon if you are Horde.
*Pendant of the Agate Shield pattern (Alliance only) – sold by the NPC Neal Allen located in Wetlands
**Amulet of the Moon pattern (Horde only) – Daniel Bartlett in Undercity or Gelanthis in Silvermoon City
Keep all the Mithril Filigree you make at this stage. Rest can be sold or disenchanted.

Leveling Jewelcrafting 220-300
The cost of raw materials can be expensive at this stage. This is where mining is going to shine as your second primary profession if you don’t have a higher level character with lot of gold to support you.

| 220-225 | Aquamarine Pendant of the Warrior | 1x Aquamarine and 3x Mithril Filigree |
| 225-245 | Thorium Setting | 1x Thorium Bar |

| 260-280 | Simple Opal Ring | 1x Large Opal and 1x Thorium Setting |
| 280-290 | Sapphire Pendant of Winter Night | 1x Blue Sapphire, 1x Essence of Undeath and 1x Thorium Setting |
| 290-300 | Emerald Lion Ring | 2x Huge Emeralds and 1x Thorium Setting |
Note that you will be using all the Mithril Filigree you made in the previous stage. Also, keep all the Thorium Setting you make here as they are required to make other items. You can sell the rest. Essence of Undeath can be bought from the auction house unless you want to farm them yourself.
Leveling Jewelcrafting 300-350
Please note that you don’t need to follow this guide exactly as it is to level up your Jewelcrafting skill. You may use your own judgment and use whatever surplus materials you have to make items which may grant you a skill point.
You will be using raw material from outland for the first time in this stage. Your can now cut gems, which can be inserted into weapon and armor sockets to boost attributes and/or stats.

Leveling Jewelcrafting 350-395
Cut any gem you can learn from your trainer which is orange/yellow/green to you. There are too many to list in here. Therefor, feel free to cut any Huge Citrine, Shadow Crystal, Bloodstone, Sun Crystal, Dark Jade, Shadow Crystal, Chalcedony or Sun Crystal using a cut which is not shown to you in gray color and incapable of gaining skill points.

You are almost there! Pick any gem cut which is orange/yellow/green to your current skill level and cut them until you reach 467 using Hessonite, Nightstone, Carnelian, Jasper, Zephyrite and Alicite. From 467 to 495, you can make Hessonite Bands and Nightstone Choker.
Please note that to level your Jewelcrafting skill above 595, you need to cut meta gems. You need tokens to buy these patterns which can be obtained by completing the Jewelcrafting Daily quest. It is possible to gain skill points by making Fire Prisms, but it is on a 20 hour cool-down and you can only make 1 every 20 hours.
| Skill level | Item to make | Raw materials |
| 450-467 | Cut any of these: Hessonite, Nightstone, Carnelian, Jasper, Zephyrite, Alicite | Hessonite, Nightstone, Carnelian, Jasper, Zephyrite, Alicite |
